Z New Orleans do Memphisu: za blues a hudbou amerického Jihu
Co dnes člověk skutečně najde, když se vydá hledat blues do míst, kde vznikalo? Je Mississippi Delta stále živou hudební krajinou, nebo už jen muzeem vlastní minulosti? Kde se ještě hraje pro místní, jak vypadají opravdové juke jointy a co z bluesové historie zůstalo mimo turistické trasy? Štěpán Suchochleb a Jan Švihálek se na jaře 2026 vydali se skupinou fanoušků Blues Alive na cestu z New Orleans přes Mississippi až do Memphisu. Nebyl to ale běžný poznávací zájezd. Díky dlouholetým kontaktům festivalu se skupina setkala s lidmi, které běžný návštěvník amerického Jihu zpravidla nepotká, dostala se na místa mimo obvyklé turistické trasy a zažila i události připravené pouze pro účastníky tour. V poslechovém pořadu představí průvodci to nejlepší, nejpodivnější i nejautentičtější, co během tisícikilometrové cesty zažili.
Řeč bude samozřejmě o hudbě: o koncertech, skutečných juke jointech, o dnešní scéně v Mississippi, o místech spojených s historií blues i o slavnostním vyhlášení Blues Music Awards v Memphisu. Dojde také na návštěvy kostelních bohoslužeb s živou gospelovou hudbou, osobní setkání s místními muzikanty a dalšími lidmi spojenými s blues, bary, silnice, motely, jižanské jídlo a všechny drobnosti, které člověk z desek, dokumentů ani hudebních encyklopedií nepozná.
Nabídneme současný pohled na krajinu, která změnila světovou hudbu – nejen na její slavná místa, ale i na svět za nimi, který se běžnému návštěvníkovi otevírá jen málokdy.
Na místě budou přítomni i někteří další účastníci Mississippi Delta Tour 2026, takže prostor bude také pro jejich zkušenosti a otázky: na nejsilnější koncert, největší překvapení, nejbizarnější situaci, nejlepší jídlo nebo na to, jaké je skutečně projet americký Jih ve společnosti lidí, kteří tam za blues nejezdí poprvé. Blues Alive podobné cesty za živou americkou hudbou podniká už několik let – po Chicagu v letech 2024 a 2025 letos přišla na řadu Mississippi Delta. From New Orleans to Memphis: in search of blues and the music of the American South

What do you actually find today when you travel to the places where the blues was born? Is the Mississippi Delta still a living musical landscape, or has it become a museum of its own past? Where is music still played primarily for local audiences, what do real juke joints look like, and what remains of blues history beyond the usual tourist routes?
In spring 2026, Štěpán Suchochleb and Jan Švihálek took a group of Blues Alive fans on a journey from New Orleans through Mississippi to Memphis. But this was no ordinary sightseeing tour. Thanks to the festival’s long-standing contacts, the group met people most visitors to the American South would rarely encounter, reached places beyond the usual tourist routes and experienced events arranged exclusively for the tour participants.
In this listening and multimedia presentation, the two tour guides will share the best, strangest and most authentic moments from their thousand-kilometre journey. There will, of course, be plenty of music: concerts, real juke joints, today’s Mississippi scene, places
connected with blues history and the Blues Music Awards in Memphis. There will also be visits to church services with live gospel music, personal encounters with local musicians and other people connected with the blues, bars, highways, motels, Southern food and all the small details of life on the road that no record collection, documentary or music encyclopedia can convey.
The presentation will offer a contemporary view of the region that changed the course of popular music – not only its famous landmarks, but also the world behind them, which rarely opens itself to ordinary visitors.
Several other participants of the Mississippi Delta Tour 2026 will also be there, adding their own experiences and answering questions about the most powerful concert, the biggest surprise, the strangest moment, the best food – or simply what it is really like to travel through the American South with people who have been coming there in search of the blues for years.
