Luther Dickinson patří k hudebníkům, pro které blues není historickým žánrem, ale živou tradicí předávanou mezi lidmi a generacemi. Se svým bratrem Codym založil v roce 1996 North Mississippi Allstars, vyrůstal v bezprostřední blízkosti osobností jako R. L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough nebo Otha Turner a zásadní školou pro něj byl i jeho otec, legendární hudebník a producent Jim Dickinson.
Hodinový rozhovor ale nebude jen o Lutherově vlastní hudbě. Řeč přijde na Mississippi a tamní hudební komunitu, na vztah k bluesové tradici i potřebu hledat v ní vlastní hlas, na práci producenta a sidemana, spolupráci s dalšími hudebníky, život ve studiu, umění potlačit vlastní ego ve prospěch písně – i na to, co znamená hudbu převzít od předchozí generace a jednou ji předávat dál.
A také na otázku, která je pro Blues Alive zásadní: jak respektovat minulost a přitom z blues neudělat muzeum? Rozhovor s Lutherem Dickinsonem povede novinář a moderátor Českého rozhlasu Plus Petr Vizina.

For Luther Dickinson, blues is not a historical genre but a living tradition passed from one person and one generation to another. Together with his brother Cody, he founded North Mississippi Allstars in 1996, grew up around musicians such as R. L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough and Otha Turner, and was profoundly influenced by his father, the legendary musician and producer Jim Dickinson.
This one-hour conversation will reach far beyond Luther’s own music. It will explore Mississippi and its musical community, the relationship between tradition and finding one’s own voice, his work as a producer and sideman, collaborations with other musicians, life in the recording studio, the importance of leaving one’s ego behind in service of a song – and what it means to inherit music from one generation and eventually pass it on to the next.
And it will also address a question that lies at the heart of Blues Alive: how do you respect the past without turning blues into a museum?
Luther Dickinson will be interviewed by Czech journalist and Czech Radio Plus host Petr Vizina.
