Publikum festivalu Blues Alive tvoří lidé s hlubokým zájmem o blues. Po léta vzhlíželi naši posluchači k USA jako k pravlasti žánru, který stojí u kořenů veškeré moderní populární hudby, ale také jako k ochránci demokratických hodnot západního světa.

V posledních letech prochází chápání pojmů jako svoboda, lidská práva a solidarita v americkém veřejném prostoru proměnou. Vývoj v zemi vzbuzuje řadu nejistot, a to nejen pokud jde o blues a jeho nositele, ale i o celkové směřování země a její místo v měnícím se geopolitickém uspořádání. Změnila se vláda, nálady v americké společnosti, nebo i hlubší chápání toho, co dělá Ameriku Amerikou? Co se v USA děje?

The audience at the Blues Alive Festival is made up of people with an enduring passion for blues. For many years, our listeners have looked up to the United States as the birthplace of a genre that lies at the very heart of modern popular music. They also perceived U.S. as a symbol of democratic values definining the West.

In recent times, however, the meaning of core ideals such as freedom, human rights, and solidarity appears to be shifting within American public discourse. These changes are creating a sense of uncertainty – not only regarding the blues music and its artists, but also concerning the broader direction of American society and its role in an evolving global landscape. Is this simply a matter of political change, or are we witnessing a deeper transformation in the very foundations of American identity? How can we better understand what is happening in the U.S.?

Renowned journalist Světlana Witowská will lead a thought-provoking discussion featuring American studies scholar Kateřina Březinová and former Czech ambassador to the United States, Petr Kolář.
