Blues Alive 2023 is over
The response to all the performances, whether it was the great American stars of the genre (G.Love & Special Sauce, Tommy Castro or Robert Finley), representatives of the European blues scene (Delgres, Boogie Beasts or Shaggy Dogs) or top local musicians, was universally enthusiastic. And vice versa: the musicians themselves did not spare any praise for the festival, but especially for the Czech audience, which they evaluated as one of the best in Europe.
A major novelty was the extension of the festival with a second full-size stage in a large capacity tent at the venue courtyard. It is no exaggeration to say that the comfortably heated tent not only fulfilled its purpose to perfection during the evening concert marathon, when its program alternated with the events in the large hall of the House of Culture, but after midnight it became the centre of unadulterated blues life, which included not only a wide range of bar offerings, but especially jam sessions which were performed to a high standard each night by the house band of Jimmy Carpenter, an overseas star from Las Vegas, until the early hours of the morning.
The festival accompanying program was also an extraordinary success. The hall of the TGM Library was bursting at the seams during the lectures of Jiří Moravčík and Ondřej Konrád. Audience also paid great attention to the masterclasses of foreign musicians Krissy Matthews and Memphissippi Sounds duo for their local colleagues, the large exhibition of blues photographs by Pertti Nurmi in the Museum of Patrimony, as well as the charity raffle with a record-breaking 77200 CZK, the main prize of which was a guitar signed by all the stars of the festival.
The festival promoters thank all the visitors of Blues Alive 2023 for the great amount of positive feedback, which they see above all as a commitment not to disappoint expectations next year. See you at Blues Alive 2024!
